· My Bucket List ·

April 3rd, 2017

Recent events, like my 26 year old son diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma, have prompted me to radically rethink what a Bucket List should be.   I would LOVE to see all the places I mention below on the Travel list, and it would be really cool to do the things on the To Do list, but for the most part, those things give meaning to the word “superfluous.”  So I am compiling a NEW Bucket List…

The New Bucket List:

  • See my son turn 30.  And then 40.  And then keep going.  (sadly, he only made it to 26)
  • Watch my grandsons grow into caring, loving, and kind men.
  • Spend my 70th birthday celebrating with my sister, Pat.
  • Go to my mom’s 100th birthday party.
  • Grow old happily with Larry.
  • Do some act of kindness for someone every day.

The Old Bucket List:

My (apparently exhausting and insanely ambitious) version of the list of things to do, people to experience and places to see (if I could) before I die. Most links provided are to the venerable Wikipedia. My (travel) list is generally in no particular order except for Peru / Machu Picchu. Wikipedia Link

Travel (yes, clearly I’m over the top here):

  • #1. Machu Picchu
  • #2. Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan
  • Normandy – Interestingly, the cemetery at Normandy, France was established by the First U.S. Army in 1944 – my own unit when I served in 1979-85.
  • Madagascar
  • The Maldives
  • The Galapagos
  • The Amazon Rainforest
  • The Panama Canal
  • Easter Island
